A new Ambulance Station for Mullingar and the greater Westmeath region

The new Mullingar Ambulance Station is a key strategic development for the region, designed to serve the Mullingar urban area and greater Westmeath. The compact facility includes administration and staff accommodation, enclosed and covered ambulance parking, 16 parking spaces (including 2 accessible), vehicular and pedestrian access, service areas, waste management, landscaping, and solar roof panels.

Located near three protected structures (a former gate lodge, abattoir, and psychiatric hospital), the site required careful planning and material selection to maintain a modern aesthetic while respecting the historical context.

A bespoke design was created to harmonize with the surroundings, taking cues from the adjacent modernist abattoir. The building features strong horizontal lines, scaled-down façades, and high-quality materials such as render and stone cladding, with aluminum-framed windows and roller shutters to complement the heritage environment.
